Podcast

This podcast was recorded by Michelle Gascoigne, Angela Kushnerick, Rachel Connor. The book read aloud is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The website we recommend in the podcast is http://www.outdoor-nature-child.com/outdoor-games-for-kids.html. I love to incorporate nature into the classroom! I believe any subject can be enhanced through environmental activities.

The main objective in our podcast is from the Oklahoma PASS Standards for second graders:
Standard 2: Life Cycles and Organisms – Life cycles represent the stages an organism passes through from its own birth to the birth of the next generation. The student will engage in investigations that integrate the process standards and lead to the discovery of the following objectives:
1. Plants and animals have life cycles that include developing into adults, reproducing, and eventually dying. The details of this life cycle are different for different organisms.
2. Plants and animals often have characteristics similar to their parents.

The activity we talk about in the podcast is a nature scavenger hunt that students can do with their parents. You will find the list on the website link above outdoor-nature-child. Pick a park that has a lot of wild life or even your own backyard. Print out the list and see how many objects you can find. The list includes objects like rocks, animal tracks, bird eggs, snake skins, and more!
